'A HOMAGE TO MY CRAFT'

'A Homage to my Craft' is the project I exhibited for my final major project at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

This collection has been influenced by textiles and the handmade. Inspiration has been taken from vintage items used within textiles, including vintage sewing machines, thimbles and thread spools.

Some of the designs seen in ‘A Homage to My Craft’ have been created using mark making experiments inspired by the patterns within hand embroidery stitches. In recent years we have seen an increase in the popularity of handmade and bespoke objects. Yet, in todays fast paced culture there is still a desire to have products made and delivered quickly. The digital processes involved in the creation of these designs responds to this idea however the handmade inspirations are still evident within the work.

The collection encompasses both digital stitch and digital designing processes, yet also hand screen printing and hand dyeing. By combining the handmade and the digital the intention is to show these two ideologies as well as the juxtaposition of old and new textile processes.

The final collection therefore is a successful vintage themed collection with a modern twist.
